My visit to Slovenia, Coming to an End
And I plan to spend the next few days in Ljubljana, the Capitol of this great country. While most people are interested in the architecture, the food, and the culture, I prefer to find amazing places to photograph. Amazingly, most Americans have never heard of Ljubljana, after all why would they? Unless you are determined to get here, Ljubljana is neatly tucked away in the center of the country. It’s a city much like Rome or Paris, with great natural beauty and art.
Yet for me, the city promises some very interesting night-time viewpoints. With this perfect weather, cool and clear, it makes wandering the city so much more fun. I am “focused” only on the imagery with no concern for comfort. Ljubljana is one of the safest cities in Europe and I never once felt threatened by anything other than other photographers standing in my picture 🙂
Art Everywhere!
This city is dominated by a feeling that young people love it here. The art, the shops, and the students all love to be here and it’s so obvious. Even the narrow alleyways are sometimes elaborately structured around the wonderful art in this city.
And they have some very interesting “features” that are delightful to discover. This hand is at the very end of the alleyway and you can see it in the photo on the left if you look carefully.
My favorite alleyway photo
This happened late one evening on my way back to my hotel. I was set up with my Sony A7rII and my 16-35mm Sony/Zeiss FE Zoom and had made several exposures when a bicyclist came streaming into my photo just as my shutter was open. He “ruined” my picture! so I thought, but when I arrived home, it turns out just the opposite was true. He MADE that phone one of my favorite from my night shooting experiences.
The Empty City
Virtually any other city at 10:00 pm would be crowded with people walking everywhere. The river area was busy, but the plazas from block to block were delightfully empty.
But, like all cities, there is a dark side and in my next post, I will show you the ugly (or artistically beautiful) underbelly of the beast.
All of the photographs in this post were shot with the Sony A7rII and either the 16-35mm FE Sony/Zeiss zoom or the 24-240 Sony/Zeiss FE zoom lens.
