From place to place, from time to time, the world changes around us. The world changes within us as well and as we look outward, we can connect with what we see inside. Today was the last day at Lake Bled and she left us with something to remember her by.
The Beauty of Sunrise
Leaving behind a spectacular sunrise, it was time for a new day and a new place. So off to Peron, the only part of Slovenia on the ocean. Once owned and loved by Venice, it’s obvious why.
Venice still exerts much influence on this little part of the world, her structures designed with the canals in mind, but no canals here, just oceanfront and fishing boats, all who earn a living from the robust tides and that sometimes make this simple profession quite challenging.
I am tired from traveling all day, Slovenia is beautiful but from the window of a moving van it’s frustrating to watch it all pass us by.
We arrived late at night and luckily, my hotel room in Peron overlooks the square. As most Piazzas in Italy, it’s the center of life in the city. Here it’s no different only smaller. The gelato shops plentiful, the Italian and Slovenia wine, flow like rain water side by side, and the laughter from restaurants and the small boats can be heard all throughout the evening. Yet, the square is empty, Sunday night at 10:30 pm, it’s buildings glow from an assortment of street lights, each distinctly showing the features of their individual subject.
But, I get ahead of myself, still more interesting and beautiful stops along the way, including a peek at the unusually colored river which flows across the entire country, finding small estates tucked into the countryside to be discovered only by those who know the way.
Who knows what tomorrow brings, but I do know that I sleep tonight on the Plaza of Peron, wanting an adventure to unfold in the morning as the temperatures drop below 40 degrees, making the next morning’s sunrise a little more interesting here in Slovenia for my 3rd day in this beautiful country.
Note: All the above images were shot with my Sony A7rII with the Sony/Zeiss 16-35mm zoom lens, the Sony/Zeiss 24-240mm zoom lens and a 10 stop Neutral Density Filter. After shooting my images, I bring them into Adobe Lightroom for organization and light processing. While in Slovenia I travel with a MacBook Pro to catalog and lightly edit my images.
