Topaz Labs is a software development powerhouse when it comes to building awesome tools for photographers. They release something wonderful every 3 or 4 months. Their latest release: Topaz Texture Effects it is the most advanced product they ever made. Before you get nervous about learning a new “complex” program, spend a few minutes and I will show you how to quickly get started!
The Basic Screen:
This is the basic screen which shows a new photo loaded in and ready to work with. Notice that the “basic adjustment” panel is open and you can adjust the photo just like you would in lightroom. But there’s a secret hiding in this simple screen, which I will show you next. Let’s take a quick look at what is possible when you load the textures. Here’s the incredible part, there are hundreds and hundreds of textures available, not just from Topaz but through a network of all the users who upload their own textures. And you can download any one you want without even signing in!
Selecting Your Texture
This is just scratching the surface of what this product is capable of. So in this next step, I selected one of the textures, and having done so, I can modify it any way I want. As you can see there are many options which can be tested instantly, with no lag time and you scroll up and down the menu.
Make Your Adjustments
Also, notice the PLUS SIGN at the bottom of the right part of the screen. When you click that plus sign, you can add another level of editing, and you can test the effect quickly by clicking on the eyeball to turn it on and off. Each of these effects are layered on top of the image you already have built.
Add a Border
As you can see I selected a particular texture AND I added a border. I can make a wide range of adjustments to the border and integrate it into the image any way I like.
Using Masking Brushes and Spots
Here, in this screen, I closed the Borders tool, opened a few other tools, which you can see in the adjustment panel and now I am going to use something I never expected a program like this to have: masking tools. Yes, you can actually mask out anything you want in your image. In this screen I am masking out the small building with a “spot area” or I could have used a brush, which really makes it stand out. Also, notice the “Plus” button at the top right of the screen. If you click that, you can save your recipe to be used on another image.
Sharing and Saving Your Custom Texture Recipe
Now, we are almost ready to save our image, but before we do, let’s explore one more element of the program. You can SHARE your final texture recipe with everyone else who uses the program. Oh Yeah! And it’s one click easy.
The Final Image
And now (drum roll please) the final, finished image ready to use. Scroll back up and look again at the original, it was certainly OK but now, it really is enhanced with mood and emotion, a very positive addition if I do say so myself.
So don’t hesitate and click this link to get your own copy of Topaz Texture Effects right away, I know you will love it!
